LRG VIDYALAYAM – A BRIEF HISTORY
It was the time when the young aspirants of the Kirikera village and surrounding hamlets were suffering for want of a well-established educational institution. There wasn’t any English Medium School over a radius of 7kms from Kirikera. By then, the employees of Super Spinning Mills A-Unit, which had considerably grown in structure and status, felt the need and importance of an English Medium School in their locality so as to facilitate the children of their employees and also from the nearby villages. Hence, they approached the Management with a request to provide accommodation to establish an English Medium School to the Chairman of Super Spinning Mills, Sri L.G. Balakrishnan garu, who was ready to give his consent for such a noble cause.
Thus, on 11th September 1978, the school was started at the southern side of the mill by altering a few residential quarters into five classrooms. The school was named after the founder- father of the four industrial brothers from Coimbatore, as LRG VIDYALAYAM – LAKSHMINAIKENPALAYAM RENGASWAMIGARI GOVINDARAJUNAIDU VIDYALAYAM. The school committee was formed with all the required credentials and the school got registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. The Kindergarten Classes were started initially with Sri Jagannatham as the President, Sri V.V. Reddy as the Secretary/ Correspondent and Sri Govinda Reddy as the Headmaster of the school. In the progressive years, classes were upgraded to Class X
A land of 7.12 acres was purchased at Bangalore Road, Kirikera. Sri LG Balakrishnan, the first patron, laid the foundation stone for the new building. 14 rooms were built for classrooms, office, lab, library and staff rooms. In the same year, the school was shifted to the present site. The expenses incurred for the building, furniture and all other requirements of the school were borne by Sri L.G. Balakrishnan garu. The school is ever indebted to that noble soul which is not resting in peace.
In the year 1988-89, the first batch of students of Class X appeared for SSC Public Examinations and thereafter, till date, 22 batches were presented for SSC. The results put forth by the students have always been illustrious.
With the increase of the strength of the school and need for additional classrooms, a new block of 4 classrooms were constructed to the northern side of the school. That was the beginning of the era for the school buildings. Then onwards the school developed from strength to strength in all aspects. The northern block consisted of two floors and the blocks towards south and west with the first floor. The school auditorium was constructed which is also used by children for their lunch.
Since its inception, till 1984, children and staff were using town service bus, bullock carts for their conveyance. It was in the year 1985, the management provided the school with a bus. With the considerable increase in the number of students utilizing the bus service provided by the school, today, we are able to meet the needs of the children coming from distant villages and localities with a fleet of 10 buses.
Computer Education was introduced in 1997 by setting up a computer lab with just 4 computers donated by the Managing Director of Super Spinning Mills, Sri Sumanth Ramamurthi. Year by year, the number of computers increased and the lab was renovated. Today, we have a well-furnished Computer lab with 40 computers, UPS facility and a OHP/projector for the lab. Computer education has absorbed vast interest of the students and helps tremendously helping the curriculum in imparting latest knowledge possible. Even the office has been completely computerized and the entire accounting team works on Computers.
The Managing Committee of the Vidyalayam was reconstructed in the year 2008 with Sri R. Sumanth Ramamurthi as the President, Smt. R. Hemalatha as the Vice President and Sri D.S. Ramakrishna as the Secretary/Correspondent.
The school is well managed and monitored by the Headmistress, Smt. IG Vasanthi, who has been rendering her steadfast, untiring services for over 20 years, since 1989 for the upliftment of the standards of education at the grassroots level among the rural poor, as more than 60% of the students come from rural villages. Her vision and efforts are well supported by the able staff of about 52 teachers.
At present the school is economically viable and the management has spared no pains to provide all the possible facilities to the staff and students. The changing pattern of education demands that the learning must be accelerated and broadened by the use of many and varied devices and materials. The school lab and library are adequately equipped to meet the present trends in education.
